Your Later Creator earnings can change after a transaction first appears in Analytics.
Brands and affiliate networks may later update transaction data because of returns, reversals, eligibility decisions, or delayed reporting. These changes can affect both your Analytics and future payouts.
This guide explains the primary adjustment types and how they affect your earnings.
Returns
A Return occurs when a shopper returns a product purchased through your Later Creator link.
Full Returns
If the shopper returns the entire order, the transaction is labeled as a return in Analytics.
You can filter for full returns when reviewing your transactions.
Partial Returns
A partial return occurs when the shopper returns only some items from an order.
Partial returns do not appear as separate full-return transactions. Instead, the original transaction is updated to reflect the revised order amount and commission.
For example, if a shopper purchases two items and returns one, the transaction may update to reflect only the remaining eligible item.
Reversals
A Reversal occurs when a brand or affiliate network determines that a transaction does not qualify for commission.
Reversals are based on transaction information supplied by the applicable brand or affiliate network. Later Creator does not initiate reversals independently.
Common reasons may include:
- The transaction did not meet the brand’s Terms & Conditions.
- The purchase exceeded a brand-defined quantity or action limit.
- The purchased product was not eligible for commission.
- The brand or network corrected an attribution or processing issue.
When a transaction is reversed, the transaction amount or commission shown in Analytics may decrease or be reduced to zero.
Historic Data Additions
A Historic Data Addition occurs when eligible transaction data is added after the original commission cycle has already been paid.
This may happen when:
- A brand or affiliate network provides corrected or delayed transaction data.
- An eligible transaction was not included in its original payout cycle.
- A previously unresolved transaction later becomes eligible for payment.
The additional eligible commission is included in a future payout.
How Adjustments Affect Your Analytics and Payouts
Returns and reversals can change the transaction and commission amounts shown in Analytics.
Before a Payout Is Issued
If a return or reversal is reported before the applicable payout is processed, the transaction is updated before payment.
After a Payout Is Issued
If a return or reversal is reported after you’ve already been paid for the transaction, the amount is added to your Returns and Reversals adjustment balance.
A future payout is adjusted to account for that balance.
Why Doesn’t My Adjustments Balance Match My Current Returns?
Your Adjustments balance reflects returns and reversals associated with previously paid payout periods.
Returns and reversals from recent or current earning periods may already appear under Transactions, but they do not become part of your Adjustments balance until the related payout period has closed and been paid.
How Long Can a Transaction Be Adjusted?
Returns and reversals commonly occur within 30–120 days of a transaction. However, this is only a typical range—not a firm deadline.
Adjustment timing varies by brand, and there is no universal time limit. A transaction may be adjusted outside the 30–120-day range based on the brand’s return or transaction-review window.
Can I Dispute a Return or Reversal?
No. Once a return or reversal has been completed, it cannot be disputed or changed.
Returns and reversals are based on information provided by the applicable brand or affiliate network. Later Creator Support cannot overturn a completed adjustment.
If you need help understanding an adjustment, you may contact Later Creator Support for an explanation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my commission decrease?
A transaction may have been partially returned, fully returned, reversed, or otherwise updated based on information from the brand or affiliate network.
Review the transaction details in Analytics for the latest information.
Why did a transaction change without appearing as a return?
Partial returns update the original transaction rather than appearing as separate full returns.
A reversal can also update the transaction amount or commission directly.
Why is there an adjustment on my current payout?
A previously paid transaction may have been returned or reversed after its original payout was issued. The amount is then applied to a future payout through your Adjustments balance.
Can I dispute a completed return or reversal?
No. Completed returns and reversals cannot be disputed or changed.
Why did my earnings increase after an older commission cycle closed?
The increase may be a Historic Data Addition resulting from corrected or delayed eligible transaction data.
